What is “Wedding Season”?

Vail Wedding CeremonyWedding Season is the phrase used to describe the months when most weddings occur in a given region. As Wedding DJs in Colorado, our peak “wedding season” is June through October, and December (as there are a lot of Holiday parties & corporate events to compete with). Why is this important? Well, we know many couples are trying to find ways to save money on their wedding. One of the easiest ways to save across the board is to pick a wedding date outside of wedding season. This is due to the basic laws of supply & demand. Most couples choose to have their weddings on Saturdays during the summer & fall months in Colorado in order to take advantage of the beautiful weather we have here. Those 20 Saturdays fill up fast… especially with the best vendors and the best venues. Therefore, you have to pay top dollar for the venue, photographer, caterer, Denver wedding DJ, florist, officiant, etc. Many Colorado couples have realized this and have chosen to have their weddings on a Friday or Sunday in an attempt to save a couple bucks. Unfortunately, this has caught on as a popular alternative and we have as many weddings to DJ on Fridays & Sundays as we do Saturdays. So much for saving money there.

However – all is not lost. There are still 6 months that are considered “off-peak” in which nearly all vendors offer lower pricing… especially when the wedding is NOT on a Saturday. Want a super-cheap amazing wedding with the best vendors in town? Get married on a Tuesday in February. If that doesn’t quite fit your vision of your wedding, consider any weekend from January through May. With all of the fantastic lighting & decor options available, we can help transform any indoor venue and make your dreams a reality.

We’re here to help, so just Contact Us and we’ll answer any questions you may have. We have a list of amazing vendors we know & trust and would be happy to connect you with them as well.

Wedding Cocktail & Dinner Music

Uplighting & Custom Gobo
Denver Wedding with Uplighting & Custom Gobo
When planning the music for your Colorado wedding, a lot of focus goes into the dancing… what will get people on the dance floor? Granted – this is very important. But what about the 2-3 hours before open dancing starts? When you hire us as your professional wedding DJ, we work with you to select the best songs that reflect your personality for cocktail & dinner music.

If you’re looking for a Nostalgic feel, artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, & Van Morrison are a great start. “Modern Nostalgic” is what we call the artists like Michael Buble, Steve Tyrell, & Ray LaMontagne. In lieu of having a String Quartet during cocktail hour, have your Denver Wedding DJ play some selections by the Vitamin String Quartet. Another great group is Postmodern Jukebox (jazz covers of popular & current Pop songs) – a great dinner music choice!

Maybe you don’t want “wedding music” during cocktail hour & dinner… great! Bluegrass, “Newgrass,” Classic Rock, Country, 90’s Love Songs, whatever your music tastes are. With the experience of one of the best Wedding DJs in Denver & all of Colorado, we’ll plan out your playlist with you. Then, we’ll know when to play which songs in order to keep the energy at an appropriate level… We don’t want everyone fist-pumping during their salad course, but we also don’t want them falling asleep in their plate.

So, when it comes to cocktail hour & dinner music, think outside the “wedding music” box if you want. Let’s get creative and really bring your personalities out through music. Your guests will appreciate the different styles they’re listening to.

P.S. – Ask us about our Music Video package. We have videos to nearly every song we play – even for your cocktail & dinner music. We can show these videos on HDTVs or a projector & screen to keep your guests visually entertained as well.

Must Play Lists for your Wedding DJ

Denver Wedding DJ - Packed Dance Floor
Denver Wedding DJ – Packed Dance Floor
When planning your Colorado wedding reception, your wedding DJ should ask you for your favorite songs. Often times, this comes in the form of “Must Play,” “Play if Possible,” and “Do Not Play” lists. (As Denver Wedding DJs, we named our lists “I Love These Songs,” “I Like These Songs Too,” and “Do Not Play.”) These lists are VERY important to your wedding DJ as they tell us what your tastes in music are. We then program the music by grouping your selections together in similar styles & tempo ranges, read your crowd to see what is working for them, and ultimately pack your dance floor.

But, how many songs should you give us? Let’s do some quick math… the average song is around 3-4 minutes long. (We’ll use 3 minutes to make the math easy.) 60 minutes in an hour, 3 minutes a song… 20 songs an hour MAX. If you give us 100 “Must Play” songs to play during your 2 hours of open dancing, we just can’t do it. We recommend 5-10 Must Plays and 10-15 Play if Possibles. That gives us a great snapshot of your musical tastes, while still giving us some freedom to use our experience at reading a crowd.

Our goal as professional wedding DJs is to play music for you… this is YOUR wedding, so we want to make sure we play music YOU want to hear. With that being said, if your goal is to have people dancing all night, pick music that your guests would dance to. We’re happy to offer suggestions and have plenty of tools to help with song selections. Below is a link to our Music page which features the Top 200 Most Requested songs, as well as the Top 100 from each decade going back to the 1950’s. We hope this helps. It’s NOT Just Music…

h2o_120929_michelehartphotogra-2228273272-OWhen it comes to entertainment for your Denver wedding – or any event for that matter – some people feel that an iPod connected to a couple of speakers is all that they need. It’s just music, after all. Well, that’s not entirely accurate… Music is an important piece of your wedding reception entertainment, but there is so much more that a professional DJ/MC provides than the music. Our trained, professional Wedding Disc Jockeys from Denver, Colorado take great pride in the experience we deliver to your wedding guests. Check out this great article from a wedding planner in Toronto who speaks from her own personal experience.

Monday’s Music Minute – The Wedding Party Dance

denver-wedding-dancingYou’ve had your First Dance, Father-Daughter Dance, and Mother-Son Dance. Now, it’s time to pack the dance floor & party! The DJ plays <insert best song ever here>, and nobody moves. Let’s face it – nobody really wants to be the first peron on a dance floor. We love using the Wedding Party Dance to fix this. We invite all of the bridesmaids & groomsmen to join the bride & groom on the dance floor and play a fun, upbeat song for them to dance to. About 1 minute into the song, we invite all the other guests to come join them. And they do! The dance floor is packed, and the party has begun!

Here are the Top 5 Wedding Party Dance songs from last year, as well as a link to the Top 50.

  1. Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars – Uptown Funk
  2. Walk the Moon – Shut Up & Dance
  3. Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling
  4. Ed Sheeran – Thinking Out Loud
  5. V.I.C. – Wobble
