We had the honor of providing our DJ & Lighting services for Mike & Melanie’s super-fun ceremony & reception a couple of weeks ago. All I can say is “What A Party!!!” It helps when there are 32 people in the wedding party who were ready to dance during cocktail hour. The 250 guests were dancing all night long and it was one of the most high-energy wedding receptions we’ve ever DJ’d! In addition to Wedding DJ services, we also provided wireless LED uplighting and a custom Gobo with their initials. At their venue, Cielo Castle Pines, it really adds a WOW factor and helps personalize the space. Here is the testimonial email we received from the bride:

Wedding Cocktail & Dinner Music

When planning the music for your Colorado wedding, a lot of focus goes into the dancing… what will get people on the dance floor? Granted – this is very important. But what about the 2-3 hours before open dancing starts? When you hire us as your professional wedding DJ, we work with you to select the best songs that reflect your personality for cocktail & dinner music.

If you’re looking for a Nostalgic feel, artists like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, & Van Morrison are a great start. “Modern Nostalgic” is what we call the artists like Michael Buble, Steve Tyrell, & Ray LaMontagne. In lieu of having a String Quartet during cocktail hour, have your Denver Wedding DJ play some selections by the Vitamin String Quartet. Another great group is Postmodern Jukebox (jazz covers of popular & current Pop songs) – a great dinner music choice!

Maybe you don’t want “wedding music” during cocktail hour & dinner… great! Bluegrass, “Newgrass,” Classic Rock, Country, 90’s Love Songs, whatever your music tastes are. With the experience of one of the best Wedding DJs in Denver & all of Colorado, we’ll plan out your playlist with you. Then, we’ll know when to play which songs in order to keep the energy at an appropriate level… We don’t want everyone fist-pumping during their salad course, but we also don’t want them falling asleep in their plate.

Monday’s Music Minute – The Wedding Party Dance

denver-wedding-dancing You’ve had your First Dance, Father-Daughter Dance, and Mother-Son Dance. Now, it’s time to pack the dance floor & party! The DJ plays <insert best song ever here>, and nobody moves. Let’s face it – nobody really wants to be the first peron on a dance floor. We love using the Wedding Party Dance to fix this. We invite all of the bridesmaids & groomsmen to join the bride & groom on the dance floor and play a fun, upbeat song for them to dance to. About 1 minute into the song, we invite all the other guests to come join them. And they do! The dance floor is packed, and the party has begun!

Wedding Reception Floor Plan Tips

As DJs with thousands of events under our belts, we’ve seen nearly every type of setup & floor plan imaginable… some more ideal than others. When you are designing the layout for your wedding reception, there are a few things to keep in mind. We found a great article on Martha Stewart Weddings that really spells it out. From the DJ’s perspective, numbers 3 and 4 are huge!

#3. Place the DJ right by the dance floor. If we’re set up in a corner, we can’t see what’s happening on the dance floor, and it makes it really hard to read which types of songs are working best for your guests.

#4. Don’t position tables right by the speakers. Once open dancing starts, we’re turning up the volume. Whoever is sitting at those tables between the speakers and the dance floor will not be happy.

Please keep in mind that many venues limit your options when it comes to the floor plan. They have their standard way of setting things up, and sometimes your hands are tied.
