For the most part, we love it when people request songs at weddings we are performing at. Making your guests happy with the music they’re dancing to is one of our top priorities. That being said, there are a few things that are, well, frowned upon.
Holding your drink over our equipment, or putting it on our table – please don’t. Saying “Play something we can dance to” when the dance floor is full – huh? Or, “Can you play that one song that goes ‘nah nah bum dah’?” – try and give us the artist & title.
One of our colleagues, DJ Tony Schwartz, summarizes this quite nicely in a blog post he did last year. http://tonyschwartzblog.com/wedding-advice-ideas/the-dos-and-donts-of-song-requests-at-weddings/
